Our Founder

Billie Hays founded the Pauls Valley Angel Tree program in 1970. She was working at the Pauls Valley Health Department as a nurse. She originally sought to provide gifts to the whole of Garvin County but soon was only able to provide for children in Pauls Valley. She was able to gather assistance from her friends and members of the Pauls Valley community. Billie is a long-term volunteer and member of the Library Board, Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Samaritans Food Pantry, and several churches in the community who provide food for people in need throughout the year. She was also nominated for Citizen of the Year, and received a certificate recognizing her work through the Pauls Valley Angel Tree by the State of Oklahoma in 2023.

Throughout the years, Pauls Valley Angel Tree has provided not only gifts at Christmas, but also clothing and furnishings for people who experienced great loss through tragedies such as house fires, or the end of family relationships;. In 2020, as the nation experienced COVID-19, Pauls Valley Angel Tree began to provide additional assistance to families who did not have enough funds to purchase mediations, travel to specialty appointments, clothing, or other necessities that could not be met through other resources.

In 2025, after 55 years of faithful service, Billie has stepped down as President of the Pauls Valley Angel Tree. We have enormous shoes to fill as we carry on in her footsteps.
